Existing combustible fences in the zone get replaced on the Phase 2 timeline the City of Los Angeles sets, which can run up to 5 years after adoption. LAFD's annual hillside inspections are the likely checkpoint.

Fence questions from Studio City lots
Do I have to tear out my whole wood fence?
No. Only the portion inside the 0-5 ft zone is regulated, which usually means the last section where the fence meets the house. The common fix is replacing the final 5 feet with a metal panel or gate so the fence no longer carries fire to the wall.
My fence is on a downhill property line, nowhere near the house. Is it affected?
Generally no. Zone 0 measures from structures, not property lines. On Studio City's canyon lots, a fence far downslope is outside the zone. But check every structure: detached garages, studios, and decks each carry their own 5 feet.
